‘Twenty Three’ is a coming of age song from rapper 7RIX. Following the release of his debut EP ‘X-Files’ earlier this year he comes back with a surprise follow up track.
As a dedication to his upcoming birthday 7RIX got into the studio with Bobby Mill to try and capture a moment and make something special which can be released on the 23rd of October. Spending time to be meticulous and capture a sound, together they were able to construct a vibe which they believe is be-fitting to the occasion.
The calmness in the instrumental captures the mood of the calm before a storm. All before an emotional outburst from 7RIX in which he unwinds and leaves himself bare, laying it all down across three verses. From the start we hear a man who is about to take a journey but is conflicted with the situations around him and the solution may be leaving everything behind him. Also dealing with issues internally “on my mind there’s way too much to take in”. We are lead to walk in the mind of the artist to discover there is more than what meets the eye. In essence this song puts you in the shoes of 7RIX and with every step we feel the weight of burdens he is pulling, every scorn relationship, every ounce of pressure from his family and his dwindling friendships.
In this song we hear a more conscious rap from 7RIX which is different to the popular rap style of his usual approach. Instead of something you’d hear in a club, this song is more suited for a late night drive, or a long walk in solitude.
The lyrics paired along with a catchy chorus which is bound to have you singing along by the second listen gives you a unique listening experience. The arrival of ‘Twenty Three’ comes around the anticipation of the music video for ‘WXVE’ which is due to be released in the forth-coming weeks.
